Mustafa Kemal Atatürk

Mustafa Kemal Atatürk
I recently completed a portrait of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. He was the founder of the Turkish republic, my home country. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk Modernized Turkey, created a secular society, and gave women legal and civil freedom. Appointed woman the right to vote, to hold office. He was the first to create a day to honor children. As the first president of Turkey in 1923, he was a man ahead of his time and his contributions to not only the country of Turkey but also the world is admirable. I felt compelled to honor him and his contributions and to watch my granddaughter stand in awe of the portrait knowing the weight and the importance of his contributions to women’s rights was an incredible moment. I chose to share this today, August 30th is celebrated as Victory Day, it is the day of liberation when Turkey became a country at the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.

Together We Make a Difference

Together We Make a Difference

I would like to introduce my newest piece, but before I do, I want to explain my inspiration. This painting speaks to the power of the collective. How often we think, “I am just one person what can I do?” But when we come together to work towards a common goal, we have the power to make a difference.

“Back to Black” by Hulis Mavruk

 The details.

Amy Winehouse is enchanting to me, her voice, her talent, her soul. She really left her mark, and as an artist that resonates with me.
My hope is thar when people see this work, they realize  nothing is ever as it seems. We see a pretty package but often fail to understand how much work, how many little details, how many people come together to make it all happen. We are all one in the end, we are all powerful, just look at the difference we can make.

Color Outside the Lines

Color Outside the Lines

I am a portrait artist by trade, that is how I got my start in the art world, portraits and sceneries. Taking on pop art was an exciting venture later in my career. I used the refinement of my portraits and then colored outside the lines, so to speak. It was fun and exciting to let loose with the paint and the results were better than I could have imagined. My art much like my life is a constant evolution, I encourage all of you to let go and color outside the lines every once in a while!

Featured Artist- YITZCHAK A.

I spend a lot of time talking in my blog about my art, but throughout my career I have worked with some incredible artists and have represented them in my galleries. Today, I want to talk about Yitzchak A. a talented Hungarian/Jewish/American artist who paints beautiful judaic art. I am honored that he has allowed my gallery, Gallery Mavruk, to represent him and his work. From his images of the Wailing Wall, to Rachel's Tomb, and cityscapes of Jerusalem, his paintings take on a dreamy approach that borders on abstract. I encourage you to come by Gallery Mavruk to see his original paintings in person because pictures do not do it justice. But if you can not make it in, you can also find his work on our website.

Mother Natures Masterpiece

Mother Natures Masterpiece

Today I felt inspired to talk about what I call "Mother Natures Masterpiece"

I started painting sceneries early on in my career and I still love to paint them. Nature is one of the easiest places to find inspiration because it is absolutely beautiful and magnificent how it call comes together to seamlessly. You simply can not stand in front of a blue ocean, listening to the waves crash, and not be in awe. You can not sit by a quiet lake surrounded by greenery and not feel peace. Nature is healing and its ability to invoke emotion is unmatched. Painting it is just as healing and the inspiration is endless. The sunrise and sunset is infinite, every day you receive new inspiration, every wave that crashes is one of a kind, really when you step back and think about the grandiosity of it all, how can one be unmoved? As an artist, I do feel we can never capture the true greatness of it on a canvas, but we can surely keep trying.
